MEDICAL ADVANCES IN AFIB ABLATION INTERVENTION
Last update 10/24/2024 - 16:15
On October 19, Hanoi French Hospital successfully hosted the scientific conference "Management of Atrial Fibrillation: From Electrograms to Persistent AF Ablation," providing a platform for specialists to exchange expertise and update the latest advancements in atrial fibrillation (AFib) treatment—one of the most common heart rhythm disorders today.
The event brought together leading interventional cardiology experts from major hospitals such as Bach Mai Hospital, Hanoi Heart Hospital, and Military Hospital 103. The conference focused on key aspects of electrophysiological studies and catheter ablation intervention.
Dr. Alain Lebon, Cardiologist and Interventional Cardiologist at Hanoi French Hospital, presented a report titled "Electrograms and Omnipolarity," analyzing and specifically comparing the superior effectiveness of omnipolar electrograms to traditional unipolar and bipolar electrograms, supported by data from global studies.
Dr. Alain Lebon stated: "Electrophysiological mapping plays a crucial role in AFib ablation. Omnipolarity overcomes the limitations of conventional unipolar and bipolar electrograms, offering significantly clearer and more precise mapping at complex locations in the heart, increasing the success rate of the intervention and reducing potential complications."
Addressing a debated topic in the approach to persistent AFib ablation, Dr. Phạm Như Hùng, Vice Director of Hanoi Heart Hospital and Director of the Emergency and Interventional Cardiology Center at Hanoi Heart Hospital, delivered a report titled "Persistent AF Ablation: Pulmonary Vein Isolation is not enough."
To support this argument, Dr. Phạm Như Hùng presented findings from in-depth studies on this issue, sharing data on the success rates of standalone pulmonary vein isolation (PVI), PVI combined with complex fractionated atrial electrogram (CFAE) ablation, and other methods.
He emphasized, "In persistent AF ablation, in many cases, pulmonary vein isolation alone is not enough. There is no one-size-fits-all strategy for all cases. Depending on the clinical scenario, ablation may even proceed without the need for pulmonary vein isolation." The assessment and selection of the intervention approach require doctors to carefully consider the most effective method, minimizing risks such as atrial flutter, AFib recurrence, or other complications.
Following these two in-depth presentations, the participating doctors and specialists engaged in lively Q&A discussions on real-life cases. The interactive atmosphere highlighted the spirit of collaboration, knowledge sharing, and the willingness of both local and international doctors to update their medical expertise.
Dr. Erwan Debuc, Chief Medical Officer at Hanoi French Hospital, shared: "We truly appreciate the presence and contributions of all doctors in today's scientific conference. The exchange and collaboration between doctors from both countries are essential in bringing the most appropriate treatment solutions to patients in Vietnam."
At the end of the program, participants took the valuable opportunity to visit Hanoi French Hospital's modern cardiology intervention rooms and explore the latest Abbott Ensite X 3D Electrophysiology Mapping System, the first of its kind in Vietnam.
Hanoi French Hospital would like to extend its sincere thanks to Dr. Phạm Như Hùng and all doctors and specialists who attended the scientific conference "Management of Atrial Fibrillation: From Electrograms to Persistent AF Ablation." The hospital will continue to organize meaningful events and conferences in the future and looks forward to ongoing support and expertise sharing from doctors.
