First Class Neonatal Intensive Care Capabilities at Hanoi French Hospital
Last update 08/07/2024 - 09:49
The HFH Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) provides specialized and comprehensive medical care for newborns who requiring specific medical intervention and support.
The primary mission of the NICU is to ensure the most intensive, timely, and effective care for high-risk newborns, particularly those who are premature, underweight, or face serious health issues immediately after birth. The role of the NICU is not only to save lives but also to establish a solid foundation for the child's long-term development.
As a pioneering healthcare facility in providing premium maternity services, trusted by thousands of expectant mothers, Hanoi French Hospital continually enhances the capabilities of its Neonatal Intensive Care Unit to ensure the safety of newborns from the very moment they are born and avoid or reduce the risk of complications in those sensitive first weeks.
Close coordination
Hanoi French Hospital (HFH) implements a continuous and close coordination process between the Obstetrics and Pediatrics departments. This ensures comprehensive care from prenatal screening, support during delivery, to postnatal care, aimed at maximizing the safety and health development of both mother and baby.
During the management of pregnancy, whenever a high-risk factor that could affect fetal development is detected, the Obstetrician consults directly with the Pediatrician to develop an appropriate management plan.
Pediatricians also participate in prenatal classes alongside midwives and nurses to provide and advise expectant mothers on newborn care knowledge.
Before each delivery, the neonatal nursing team (which includes at least one nurse trained and experienced in clinical pediatrics) is always present on-site. They review all procedures and check the corresponding equipment to ensure everything is ready for use.
Depending on whether the mother has high-risk factors that could affect the fetus, the Pediatrician may be present on standby in the initial resuscitation room after delivery or always on call, ready to assist with the Obstetrician and Anesthesiologist in timely emergency care if any abnormal conditions arise during delivery.
After birth, all newborns are examined by the Pediatrician within the first 24 hours and throughout their hospital stay, with complete vaccinations administered according to the protocol.
If any abnormalities are detected, the baby will be examined multiple times depending on their health status and will be re-evaluated before discharge. The Pediatrician will directly advise and support parents to ensure they have the knowledge and confidence to care for their baby.
Professional medical team
In neonatal care and treatment, the human factor is the most crucial. When delivering at HFH, mothers and families can be completely at ease knowing that both mother and baby receive comprehensive care from a team of experienced, highly skilled French and Vietnamese doctors and nurses, who closely monitor and provide accurate and timely treatment.
The important principles followed at HFH in neonatal care include:
- Accurate and timely treatment
- Effective infection control
- Nutritional guidance: always advising and promoting breastfeeding as the best option
- Comprehensive and meticulous monitoring procedures
To continually enhance their expertise, HFH’s medical staff regularly participate in long-term training programs at major domestic and international centers, attend workshops and short courses on neonatal resuscitation, and organize in-house training sessions for the hospital’s medical team.
Modern machinery and equipment
The NICU at HFH is equipped with the most advanced machinery and equipment, including the state-of-the-art non-invasive Bubble CPAP system (Draeger), which provides optimal support for infants.
The Bubble CPAP is recognized and recommended in the latest European guidelines and standards for managing respiratory distress in newborns (European Consensus Guidelines on the Management of Respiratory Distress Syndrome: 2022 Update). Currently, Bubble CPAP is widely used around the world and has been shown by numerous clinical studies to be effective in ventilating newborns.
In neonatal intensive care, non-invasive ventilation is always preferred due to its reduced risk of infection and respiratory complications. The new generation Bubble CPAP system, with its innovative and intelligent design, offers an exceptional non-invasive ventilation solution:
- Help to maintain continuous positive airway pressure.
- Create pressure oscillations, like high-frequency-oscillatory Ventilation (HFOV) effect. Thus, providing effects similar to high frequency oscillatory ventilation for improving gas exchange, significantly improve hypoxemia and promote CO 2 removal, reduce work of breathing.
- Improved and effective ventilation, reduced need to intubation.
Facilities and services to western standards
HFH was the first hospital in Vietnam to be recognized with ISO 9001 certification in 2007, and this certification has been continuously renewed to date.
At HFH, the facilities and services are designed according to western standards to provide the most dedicated and comprehensive care for patients.
The hospital adheres to the highest international recommendations for sterilization and infection control, using specialized French disinfectants to treat instruments before they enter the sterilization process. Patient rooms and care areas are designed to minimize cross-contamination, ensure privacy, and guarantee the utmost safety of patients.
All services are designed with a patient-centered approach, aiming to provide the highest level of care and comfort for infants and their families, ensuring the best foundation for the child's future health and happiness.
