Heart rhythm disorders are a group of dangerous cardiovascular conditions that can occur at any age, often presenting with irregular heartbeats that are too fast (>100 beats per minute) or too slow (<60 beats per minute), or loss of physiological rhythm.
If not detected and treated promptly, certain types of heart rhythm disorders, such as atrial fibrillation, atrial flutter, ventricular tachycardia, premature beats, and atrioventricular block, can significantly impact health. Over time, the condition can lead to heart failure or myocardial infarction. Patients with atrial fibrillation and atrial flutter face a stroke risk five times higher than normal individuals due to blood clots forming in the heart, which can travel to the brain.
Dr. Alain Lebon, from the Department of Cardiology and Interventional Cardiology at Hanoi French Hospital, said: “The goal of treating heart rhythm disorders is not only to reduce symptoms, control the rhythm, and restore normal heart rhythm but also closely involves monitoring and preventing complications.”
Even in procedural interventions such as catheter ablation, which is generally considered safe, physicians need to carefully consider minimizing the risk of complications for the patient and improving success rates.
To help patients with heart rhythm disorders and their families better understand the treatment options and the considerations for stroke prevention, Hanoi French Hospital is organizing the workshop “Comprehensive treatment of rhythm disorders and stroke prevention” with the participation of the following experts:
- Dr. Alain Lebon –- a cardiac physician certified in electrophysiology by the European Heart Rhythm Association, with over 20 years of experience in treating cardiovascular and arrhythmia conditions in France;
- Dr. Ngo Chi Hieu – Doctor of Internal Cardiology, with over 26 years of experience, specialized training in emergency and cardiac resuscitation in France.
