Do not underestimate urinary stones
Last update 09/27/2024 - 17:58
Urolithiasis is a common urinary tract disease in Vietnam, especially among middle-aged people. The disease is more common for men than women and tends to reoccur periodically. If not treated in a timely fashion, stones can block the urinary system, causing an infection that damages kidney function.
The urinary tract consists of two kidneys, two ureters, the bladder and urethra. Urinary stones can occur in any part of the urinary tract. The disease can develop seriously or quietly, potentially without any symptoms. A kidney stone, ureteral stone or bladder stone can be accidentally identified during an abdominal scan or an ultrasound for another disease.
However, most urinary tract stones have quite diverse impacts. The most common symptoms are abdominal pain and pain and fatigue in the lower back, especially the abdomen below the urinary part with stones. When the patient has lumbar pain with fever, frequency, dysuria, cloudy or red urine, they should see a doctor as soon as possible to be diagnosed and treated promptly.
To diagnose urinary stones, besides a physical examination, based on the medical history, it is necessary to take X-rays and an ultrasound. Some people need intravenous urography, computational tomography or magnetic resonance imaging to detect small stones.
At Hanoi French Hospital, the Urology Surgery Department is fully equipped and uses the most advanced techniques in the treatment of urinary stones such as pulse wave lithotripsy, lithotripsy, through ureteroscopy, cutaneous stone lithography, laparoscopic surgery to remove urinary stones and classic surgery to remove urinary stones.
Appropriate treatment will be prescribed by your doctor on a case-by-case basis. Extracorporeal Shock Wave Lithotripsy (ESWL), which has been widely adopted in developed countries, is considered a good treatment for kidney stones. This method is usually employed for cases of stones ranging in size from 3mm to 20mm.
The latest generation of stone dispersion machine, Modulit @ SLK, of Storz Medical - Switzerland is being applied at Hanoi French Hospital:
