Colorectal cancer: Minimize risks through early screening
Last update 03/18/2024 - 15:12
Colorectal cancer is receiving a lot of attention in Vietnam and the world over. According to cancer organizations in Vietnam, in 2020, there were nearly 16,000 cases of colorectal cancer detected in the country. This is an alarming number for the healthcare sector and directly affects many families deeply.
Additionally, there is a trend towards younger people being diagnosed with colorectal cancer. Most colorectal cancers develop from adenomatous polyps, which are abnormal growths of the colon lining that can be detected through a colonoscopy.
✨ The benefits of early detection of colorectal cancer:
"Colorectal cancer screening helps detect cancer at an early stage and removing polyps can prevent the risk of it developing. Early detection of colorectal cancer increases the chance of successful treatment and can even lead to a complete cure from the first colonoscopy," says Dr. Nguyen Thi Cam Tu - Specialist in Gastroenterology & Hepatology at HFH.
However, early-stage colorectal cancer symptoms can include abdominal pain, stool disorder, constipation, and blood in the stool. People with a moderate risk of colorectal cancer should start screening at the age of 45.
*Note: Screening should be carried out until the age of 75 for people with moderate risk. In special cases, where the risk of colorectal cancer is higher than normal, screening stake place at a younger age, such as:
🌸 Personal history of colorectal cancer
🌸 Family history of colorectal cancer
🌸 Hereditary family syndromes. Some people are aware of genetic syndromes in their family that increase the risk of colorectal cancer, such as familial adenomatous polyposis or Lynch syndrome.
🌸 Inflammatory bowel disease. People with ulcerative colitis or Crohn's disease have an increased risk of developing colorectal cancer.
At HFH, with the modern endoscopy system that enhances color staining, early cancer can be identified, and gastrointestinal cancer at an early stage can be treated with mucosal resection.
⚜️ The colonoscopy process is aseptic, gentle, painless, and risk-free of infection, with single-use medical instruments.
Appointments can be easily and conveniently scheduled, with preparation and colonoscopy completed in just one day. The endoscopy process at HFH is directly performed by a team of leading doctors in the field of early diagnosis and treatment.
