Anesthesiology & Intensive Care Unit

The Anesthesiology & Intensive Care Department – Hanoi French Hospital – plays a crucial role throughout procedures, surgeries, and the care of critically ill patients. The anesthesiology and intensive care team accompanies patients from relieving pain, closely monitoring them during surgery and procedures, to ensuring safe recovery, rapid rehabilitation, and treatment of severe, life-threatening conditions.

Scope of Practice

  • General anesthesia: helping patients enter a deep sleep state, completely losing sensation and consciousness throughout surgery, ensuring safety and effectiveness of the intervention.
  • Regional anesthesia, spinal/epidural anesthesia, quadratus lumborum block: numbing pain in specific body regions, commonly applied in limb, obstetric, or urological surgeries. Techniques can be performed under ultrasound guidance for precision and safety.
  • Epidural analgesia for labor pain relief.
  • Local anesthesia & peripheral nerve block: direct injection of anesthetic into the site or around nerves to relieve pain in minor procedures, outpatient surgeries, or joint interventions.
  • Perioperative intensive care: continuous monitoring of vital signs to ensure safe awakening. Developing plans to minimize surgical complications and promptly managing emergencies.
  • Intensive care: working with specialists to treat unstable or critically ill patients in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU).
  • Postoperative pain management: applying multimodal pain control strategies, including analgesics and interventional techniques, to minimize pain and shorten recovery time.
  • Sedation: supporting patients to relax and reduce anxiety during diagnostic or minimally invasive procedures, or while in intensive care, making the process smoother and more comfortable.
  • Close coordination with insurance companies to ensure patients with insurance receive optimal benefits. Organizing medical transport and patient repatriation under the best possible conditions.
